In this section the International Journal of Public Opinion Research reviews articles that have recently been published in peer-refereed journals and which broadly relate to the field of public opinion. The intention is not to give an exhaustive overview of a given study but rather to alert our readers to interesting ideas and research in our field. Butt, Sarah (2006). How voters evaluate economic competence: A comparison between parties in and out of power. Political Studies, 54, 743766
If voters are to judge between competing parties on the basis of competence, as many apparently do in British general elections, how are they to form their evaluations? While the incumbent government might be judged on their record in office, comparable information is not available for their opponents. After a review of the existing literature and discussion of some hypotheses, Butt uses pre-election interviews from the British Election Panel Studies to model the process by
